A Central Heating
System will often be defined as comprising a home's gas boiler,
boiler controls, hot water system, pipework and radiators. Some
providers offer products that also include maintenance and protection
for household plumbing, drainage and electrical systems and other
electrical and gas appliances. These may be available as standalone
services or be bundled together as part of a central heating care
product.
Central heating
cover / insurance policies and central heating care, maintenance &
repair plans typically provide for checking, maintaining and
repairing most parts of a home's central heating system. They offer far
more comprehensive protection than, for example, products that cater
only for gas boilers.
Adding plumbing care,
for instance, will usually provide for parts and labor to replace or
repair items including cold water storage tanks, toilet ball valves and
siphons, burst pipes due to cold weather, radiator valves, immersion
heaters and hot water cylinders. Similarly, drainage insurance / care
will typically provide for the unblocking of waste or rainwater drainage
pipes - including sinks - within your property's boundaries or until
they become connected to shared or public drains.
Without insurance or
a care plan, a central heating breakdown can become very
problematic, possibly involving a complete loss of heating for your
home. You would then need to find a qualified, available and reliable
heating engineer to carry out any necessary repairs, which could lead
to a large final bill after taking into account call out, parts and
labor charges.
Worst case scenarios
could involve a central heating breakdown during a cold snap, when you
have visitors or when help is hard to find or especially expensive (eg
public holidays, weekends, etc). By contrast, having a service agreement
or insurance contract in place can get you rapid access to reliable
engineers, potentially with no extra charges to pay.
