Types of life insurance cover

There are two basic types of life insurance cover, and these are term life insurance and whole of life insurance. With term life insurance you pay premiums for a set amount of time, such as fifteen years, and at the end of the specified period your premiums will cease and your cover will be declared null and void.

If any claim is made on the cover within the term the insurance will, of course, expire. With whole of life insurance cover the policy is for life, so your payments will be continuous and the cover will continue until you die or cancel the policy. Term insurance is the cheaper of the two options.

The cost of life insurance cover can vary from one provider to another, and by getting a quote from a number of providers you can compare the cost of cover in order to get cheap cover that offers adequate protection levels. However, you should make sure that you do not take only the cost of cover into account, as you also need to ensure that the policy provides adequate cover. Ensure that you read the small print and that you know exactly what is and isn’t covered by the policy.
